Not only is prestige linked to this award, but it also shows that Perdeberg is making wines that enthusiasts want to buy and enjoy. In addition, they continue to make wines that trade customers want to include in their wine list.
“Being part of this selection of the best Cape blends is a great honour, and receiving this award confirms the quality wines that Perdeberg produces from our dry land vineyards,” says Cellar Master, Albertus Louw.
Entries were received from all wine regions in various styles and blend combinations, and a total of 33 entries were judged. The 2022 winners showcase the excellent vintages of 2018 and 2020.
The Endura Winemakers Selection Cape Blend 2018, a top-tier limited release that forms part of Perdeberg’s iconic range, is bottled only when there’s a vintage good enough to keep company with its exceptional forerunners. Made to reflect the true character of the varietals used in the blend, and showcase the diversity and uniqueness of the terroir, it truly is a wine of exceptional quality.
Only the finest wines from French Oak barrels were blended to create a harmony of flavours and balance. The Winemaker’s Selection Cape Blend is elegant with a fine tannin structure, intense colour and fruit-forward flavours, with promising ageing potential. The 2018 blend consists of 65% Pinotage, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Malbec.
According to Louw, this Pinotage-driven blend displays aromas of dark berries, blackcurrant and red fruit, with nuances of cocoa and dried tobacco leaves. Blueberries, cherries and hints of vanilla are the prominent flavours on the palate, resulting in a well-structured palate with a long smooth finish.
