The RECM Best Value Tastings kicked off at the Pendock Wine Gallery with a number of blind tastings on the 24th February. The aim of the tastings is to provide an effective showcase to producers for their wines. The tastings are divided into varietal categories, and take place every Wednesday. Tastings are blind and respected judge Dr Winnie Bowman is panel chair.
The wines submitted for each category are tasted blind in the morning by the panel of judges, run by Dr Bowman, along with the occasional guest judge or two. Wines are scored out of 20, and judges give their tasting notes and comments for each wine. The scores are then correlated with the cellar price to obtain a value ratio, as described in http://neilpendock.com/best-value-sauvignons-in-sa.
