Christoff Briers-Louw, the great grandson of Christoffel Jacobus Briers-Louw who was one of the founders of Perdeberg Wine Cellars in 1941, flies the Perdeberg Wines flag on top of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Christoff’s ascent of Africa’s highest point was accomplished to mark Perdeberg’s 75th anniversary – his triumph is the first of many celebratory activities planned for the winery’s 75th birthday, one of them being the expansion of our facility and will soon offer a modern, but homely wine emporium with conference facility and a restaurant in future.
Over the past 75 years, Perdeberg has also achieved many milestones. A prominent achievement is that the winery has made its mark as one of the most distinguished Chenin Blanc producers in South Africa. The winery’s many awards is testimony to this.
Two of the more memorable awards were winning the Gold International Trophy for best white wine in the world at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2015 for Perdeberg’s The Dry Land Collection Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc 2013 as well as Best Overall Champion award at Wine Magazine’s Chenin Blanc Challenge 2011 for the Rex Equus Chenin Blanc 2008.
Not only is Perdeberg the best of the best Chenin Blanc producers, but it is also an acclaimed premium wines producer, winning the 2013 Top Producer Trophy in the Michelangelo International Wine Awards. And that wasn’t the peak for Perdeberg either because; in 2014 the winery walked away from the Veritas Wine Awards with a Double Gold for its Dry Land Collection Chenin Blanc 2013 and was listed in the Standard Bank Chenin Blanc Top Ten Challenge for Dry Land Collection Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc 2013.
In 2015, Perdeberg was awarded a Gold trophy for Dry Land Collection Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc 2013 at the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show. Another major triumph last year was to be named South African Wine of the Year at the China Wine and Spirits Awards.
Perdeberg has recently invested in a new barrel maturation cellar to expand its premium offering.
Happy 75th to Perdeberg!
